They apply for this There is some general fanservice involved, and, with the exception of the Brunch, there is a certain expected level of undressing and being undressed. A few of the more-energetic boys will wind up in their underwear. On another level, though, the boys become representatives of the convention. Calling someone a <i>bishounen</i> is one hell of a compliment, and making it official (the boys get a special badge) makes it even more so. I don't think it's something that you can do lightly, and that's why I was so surprised. The company you choose to keep can say a lot about your values and priorities. As I said, though, the con is free to choose whomever it likes to represent it, and I'm trying not to think about it too much. I don't spend much of my time at the "Official Bishounen" events, so it doesn't actually <i>affect</i> me much.
