Ah, okay, so that's what they are and do. Quite the title then.

(Ooh...I'll be sure to do that from now on! Thank you. Sorry for not seeing that sooner.)

Running around con with you was great. Even if most of my friends weren't there, I was introduced to a bunch of new people, some of which I hope to keep in touch with. Café V was really awesome and I'm glad you made that reservation. I look forward to your review as well, they're fun to read. ^_^

Adrian,

I speak for myself as well as the entire staff of Cafe V when I say that we enjoyed having you at our event again. You are a pleasure to serve and converse with. I sincerely hope that you will continue to join us for future years.

I look forward to reading your sure-to-be wonderfully written review.

Sincerely,
Matta

Well, on one level, the "Official Bishounen" are just the boys selected by the con to star in events like Friday night Bingo, the Auction, the Sunday Brunch, or the end-of-con raffle. They apply for this There is some general fanservice involved, and, with the exception of the Brunch, there is a certain expected level of undressing and being undressed. A few of the more-energetic boys will wind up in their underwear.

On another level, though, the boys become representatives of the convention. Calling someone a bishounen is one hell of a compliment, and making it official (the boys get a special badge) makes it even more so. I don't think it's something that you can do lightly, and that's why I was so surprised. The company you choose to keep can say a lot about your values and priorities.

As I said, though, the con is free to choose whomever it likes to represent it, and I'm trying not to think about it too much.

(As an aside, the website does this nifty threaded-comment thing; if you click "Reply to this comment", your comments will 'nest' the way mine do.)

Well that's good then. So what exactly is the "Official Bishounen" thing? Is it some sort of masquerade thing?

Even that wasn't much of a buzzkill. I don't spend much of my time at the "Official Bishounen" events, so it doesn't actually affect me much. If the con wants him as an official representative, they're certainly welcome to that choice; it only surprised me a bit.
